Prefect or Friend ?

It has been 2 months when the juniors take over the prefects' responsibility from their senior. It will be not long when the juniors become seniors when the lower 6 students enter our school.

As a prefects, there are times when we face difficulties; One of the problems is we do not know what should we do when we encounter diciplinary cases that involved our friends. Are we suppose to let him slip away , or bring him to face diciplinary action and let justice be done upon him?

We know that if we let him slip away, he might repeat what he had done. If we caught him, our relationship will be damaged. So, we have to choose , between friend and prefect.

Here , I am not telling you what you should do, but to help you to discover, there are ways to solve problems. Even the world's most complex problem has it own solution.

Let me start with a story:
One day, you and your wife and your mom are jogging along the river. Besides 3 of you ,there is no one else. Suddenly, your wife and your mom fell into the river. Both of them do not know how to swim. You can save only one person. Who will you choose, your wife or your mother?

The best answer I could find is : I will save my mom, then I jump into river and die with my wife.( p/s if you have better answer that this, plz tell me)

So, my advice will be: Depend on the situations, and act according to your heart.

I will talk more about it during the next prefects meeting in May.

So, what will you do? My friends.

The Begining of An End

On 28/3/08, all of the form 5 prefects but Exco are "released" from duty. The newly elected prefects will take over them, as a guardian and protector of the school. As a head prefects, I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to them, for helping us to shape the school.

In the past, these prefects worked hard, they sacrificed their time and energy in order to make sure that the interests of the school are protected under the principle " No Pain ,No Victory". Their contributions to the both school and prefects' board will be appreciated and remembered.

To the newly elected prefects, I hope that we could cooperate with each other. Together, we can make our school a better place to study. Together, we will have a great 2008.

Seniors, I am pleasure and proud to have you in our team.

Prefect Leadership Course

On Friday, 14 March 2008 , more than 80 people joined the leadership course. The course is organised by the school to train juniors(morning session) and afternoon section prefects. We have invited a speaker from UCSI, Mr Johan Bey.

The course starts at 7:30am, and ends at 12:30pm. During the 5 hours, we have lots of activities. Mr Johan is a good speaker, he gets the attention of all people, by standing on a table. Then he start to explain on how to become a good leader.

"The tallest man in Malaysia -- Mr Johan !!"

"Hey,you are not paying attention"

According to him, a good leader must be MODERN, which means:
Motivate
Objective
Delegate
Effective
Rewards
Neutral

After the 1 hour talk, Mr Johan conducted a workshop. He divided us into 7 groups, and gave each groups a red T-Shirt, with the name "UCIS" on it. Then, he asked every group to design it.

"Quick, we need to design!"

"Stop touching me, I am allergic to touching, yuk"

After 25 minutes, all the 7 groups are ready to present their designs:

After the BL "fesyen" show, Miss Ko taught us how to do spot check.

"Hmm, how come no money inside??"

"Aiyak, you touch me... Sobz"

After having lunch , we finished our course. And We Live Happy Ever After........ ^-^

Special Thanks to:
Mr Johan and his Assistant, Miss Yeo
Miss Ko
UCSI (for providing such a good speaker, and most important, is free of charge!!"
Kwong Yong and his gang ( Roysten, Kian Soon, Joo Seng, Elisha....)
And all people that participate( that include meeee!!)
For making this possible.

Update: March

Currently, the prefects consist of 103 prefects (73 seniors and 30 juniors). We work together and share together to ensure that we will succeed together. We hope to increase our junior to 48 people by introducing 4th and 5th badge by early March.

The Form 5 prefects will be scheduled to retire by early April, when the juniors are ready to continue the task given to us. As a head prefects, I thanks for their commitment and contribution to the school and the prefects' directory board. They have done so much to help to shape the school diciplinary. I can see that our students' diciplinary is improving, less people are getting late to school, students do their K.K punctually and some students help us to arrange chair when our school organized talks and campaign.

For the juniors, I believe there are task waiting for them. They will learn the necessary skills to lead ,and to be a leader among others. These few months, they have been listening, learning and trying to become a prefects. I actually admiring their spirit that they have. One incident is still vivid in my mind, before the Chinese New Year, the juniors are grouped into 2 groups, and each group was given a mission : search for fire crackers.

Here are the interesting part : They search the whole school in just 30 minutes. The way the search is surprising too, they checked every corners of the school, including rubbish bin, vases and even compound outside of the school.(I wonder if they checked the toilet bowl) .From their looks, I know that they are very serious about their mission. They are determined to accomplish their mission.

They did a good job after all. We managed to find fire crackers such as dragon crackers, "chai lei wan". I wonder what will happen if all these fire crackers are lid in our school compound.

Well done, juniors. You have shown us that you are qualified to become prefects.
